I feel like high voices or shill instruments don't work out well with shanties, the shanties feel like smooth buttery and hearty singing. But when high singing, or pretty singing comes up, it's cuts thru the song and you just go "huh? Why this is cutting sound tearing thru the singing?"

They are made to cure boredom and raise the ships morale so it’s very normal to like them

Ronja rövar dotter is a swedish movie taht the entire south of Sweden knows

I feel like a lot of these female singers use some form of vibrato. It's become so common, but for sea shanties you have to sing clear or at least simple notes without embellishment. It's become very normal even for hobby singers to use embellishments because it makes you sound more 'talented' but imo it often ruins a song's melody- and that becomes especially obvious when highlighted by songs that should be sung without any embellishments.
